EPDM ROOFING SYSTEM

EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer) is a widely used roofing material that is known for its durability and installation ease. These single-ply “rubber roofs” use a high-performance compound that weathers well in Texas winters and hot summers.

“Rubber Roofs” — A Sustainable Option

In the last decade, there has been a tremendous push to make buildings more environmentally sustainable. EPDM is a sustainable roofing option in more ways than one. It is known for its long life and durability, which reduces the long-term costs of replacement and repairs.

More than that, it’s an energy saver. EPDM is available in black or white, which helps our customers choose the color that will reduce heating or cooling costs. We take a consultative approach, and talk to our customers in-depth about the rubber roofing system that will be best for their needs.

Studies have shown that, in northern climate zones, buildings with a dark colored EPDM “rubber roofs” actually save more energy than buildings with white roofing systems. The dark color of a rubber roof actually attracts the sun’s energy and can help building owners cut heating costs. 

EPDM is also a good choice because it can be installed without too much disruption to students and teachers. The roofing membrane is rolled out across the roof and is mechanically attached, ballasted or adhered with a strong adhesive.

BUILT-UP ROOFING SYSTEMS FOR COMMERCIAL PROJECTS

In built-up roofing systems (often called “tar and gravel” or “asphalt and gravel” roofs), redundancy is the key to making a strong and lasting roof. At Major Roofing, we place layer on layer of coal tar pitch or asphalt, alternated with plies of reinforcing felts. The overlapping layers ensure that no moisture gets through.

We tailor built-up roofing systems to product specifications and budgets. Customers choose three, four or even five ply roofs according to their needs and budgets. Each layer creates added resistance to water and weather.
